The new two-story single-family house with an attic and basement is situated on an interior lot facing Antheon Street in Gerakas, Attica, Greece. The building is designed as a permanent residence, offering functional and comfortable living spaces.
The mandatory setbacks from the plot boundaries determined the shape and position of the building within the relatively small plot. The design program specified a residence that extends across four levels—basement, ground floor, first floor, and attic—with an emphasis on creating functional, bright interior spaces that seamlessly connect both internally and with the outdoor areas.
Access to the plot is provided from the northwest side via a courtyard gate leading to the main entrance of the house, as well as a ramp that leads to the underground parking area. The basement is designed to also function as a separate apartment with an independent entrance and direct access to the uncovered outdoor space.
The outdoor spaces are organized into two courtyards. The uncovered area facing the street serves as an outdoor seating area, while the one at the rear of the building, to the south, features a barbecue area. Access to these courtyards is possible both from the basement via a lowered courtyard (cours anglaises) and from the ground floor via an external staircase. The courtyards are enclosed by solid walls and surrounded by tall shrubs, ensuring the residents' privacy.
The main facade of the house features large longitudinal balconies on each level, which protrude distinctly from the monolithic building volume. Similarly, the rear facade is designed with smaller balconies that emphasize the vertical dimension. These balconies, combined with discreet overhangs, provide protection from rain and intense sunlight.
The structural frame of the house is made of heavy steel construction, with infill walls and partition walls built using drywall systems. The mandatory tiled roof is designed as a single-pitched surface, facilitating the installation of photovoltaic panels that follow its slope.
The design of the residence combines modern aesthetics, sustainable design principles and functionality, aiming to create a pleasant living environment within the city.
