The proposed buildings are located in the area of Skala Potamias, Thassos, Greece, on a plot facing towards the island’s ring road. The elongated shape and the limited area of the available plot set from the beginning an interesting challenge for the proper positioning of the two requested buildings within it. The two new two-storey houses are intended to operate for permanent residence and are developed vertically on three levels, following the same typology. The elevated ground floor, accessible by an external staircase, consists of an open plan living and kitchen area, a WC and an internal staircase leading to the first floor and the basement. The floor consists of two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. The basement has a communal entertainment area and a bedroom with WC. The balconies designed on both levels, along the entire narrow side of the buildings, encourage outdoor life. These open balconies, combined with the creation of a closed balcony on the first floor and the use of the local pitched roof, are the dominant morphological elements of the composition, giving the two buildings a special character. In general, the proposed building volumes have a simple form that is dictated by both the functional requirements of the program and a mood for minimalist interpretation of the local architectural idiom. The proposed architectural design is completed with a basic configuration of the surrounding area and the provision for the necessary parking spaces.
