This is an architectural schematic design for a tourist resort in the seaside village of Agia Varvara Nikiti in Chalkidiki. The available plot is located in a sparsely constructed area, in the central part of the village and close to the sea. Access to the plot is from the north, from a municipal dirt road. There are two adjoining plots already built, on the south and west side, while on the eastern side the plot is adjacent to an empty plot. The ground slopes down to the southeast.
The tourist complex is intended to function exclusively as a small scale hospitality building for the summer, providing accommodation for rent to the large number of tourists arriving in the area during the summer months. The tourist resort consists of eight furnished apartments, along with independent storage spaces in the basement. Each apartment can provide a comfortable stay for a family of four, during the summer vacation. The apartments are arranged side by side so that they take advantage of the elongated shape and the favourable south-eastern orientation of the plot. Large openings in appropriate locations contribute to both adequate lighting and the natural cooling of interior spaces throughout the day.
The architectural design, taking into account the limited budget for the construction of the project, aims at achieving the maximum result at the lowest possible cost. In order to reduce the cost and time of construction, the building is designed to make the best possible use of the prefabrication method. That is why the building has the simplest possible geometric form. Particular care has been taken in order to find the right dimensions for both the individual spaces of typical apartments and the building as a whole. The selection of the appropriate form, the ideal layout of the rooms, the reduction of all dimensions to a minimum and the generally rational design throughout the project, all take full advantage of the available plot and by using the least possible means, provide the occupants with a comfortable and quality living in the complex during their holiday.
