SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSE WITH PILOTIS & BASEMENT IN GLYFADA, ATTICA, GREECE

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

The architectural design concerns a modern single-family house with a pilotis and a basement in Glyfada, designed for a multi-member family. The building is developed on multiple levels, within a vertical property on a corner plot, making the most of the available space with dimensions of 8.5m x 11m. The entrance is located on the south side, leading directly to the pilotis, which serves as both a covered parking area and a threshold to the residence. The architectural design focuses on functionality and the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The uncovered ground floor area includes a swimming pool, a barbecue area and perimeter planting with tall shrubs that ensure privacy. The basement houses utility rooms and is accessible from the uncovered area via a cours anglaise. The first floor serves as the main living area, with an open-plan living room, dining room and kitchen, extending to two large balconies: a south-facing one with a sea view and a north-facing one overlooking the swimming pool. The second floor contains the family's more private areas, such as the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a balcony with a sea view, a guest room and an office space. The children's bedrooms are on the third floor, all with balcony access. At the top of the building, the roof is divided into two zones: the northern part with a pergola and barbecue and the southern part serving as an outdoor living space or sunbathing area with a sea view. The stairwell roof hosts photovoltaic panels that contribute to reducing the home's energy footprint. The construction is based on a conventional reinforced concrete frame with thermal insulation cladding, while the architectural form is characterised by simple geometry with large cantilevers and openings, highlighting the building's modern aesthetic and functionality.
