The architectural design for the addition of a floor to a ground-floor residence with a basement in Elaia, Messinia concerns the creation of a small vacation home. The design follows the existing reinforced concrete load-bearing structure and uses the existing exterior staircase for access. The layout of the new floor includes an open-plan living room and kitchen with large openings that lead to a covered space with a sea view, a bedroom that connects to an east-facing balcony with a mountain view and a bathroom. The construction is based on prefabricated wooden walls with external thermal insulation, while the building form is completed with a four-hipped tiled roof, in continuity with the architectural typology of the village. The main objective of the design is the harmonious integration of the addition into the existing building and the creation of a modern architectural form that respects the local tradition.
